Jeg synes, det er meget svært, for hvis man når til det punkt, hvor man bliver ludomani, vil man være det for livet, ligesom en person, der misbruger stoffer/alkohol, og med hasardspil er fristelsen altid der. Jeg synes, at viljen til at holde op er meget vigtig, men uden hjælp er det ikke muligt.

Jeg ved godt, at tråden blev lidt forladt, men jeg syntes, spørgsmålet var meget interessant.

Yes I totally agree and I think I said something similar somewhere in this thread.

I know people who are and have been addicted to drugs / alcohol. Some beat it with therapy and removing themselves from certain situations where the temptation is there, bars, clubs etc. Or maybe just the social circle they keep.

I found that gambling (for me it was specifically online) was such an easy habit to hide from people.

By this I mean, a person who is drunk or under the influence of drugs displays behaviour that is noticeable to other people. Whereas with gambling you don’t look at some and say they are a gambling addict just off the way they look or act. This is why I think it is more difficult to beat than most (all addictions are difficult to beat too).

Over the years of me being open not just with myself but with others, I can now actually spot the behaviour of people who are doing the same things that I used to do. I hope with more awareness of the addiction that it will become easier for others to spot this behaviour in their social circle and then reach out to try to help these people who are struggling. I speak from experience and can say that I have helped many of my friends to address their gambling behaviours. It has helped a lot of them stop.

I think this problem is very twofold, and it depends on the person themselves and their self-discipline. But if a person can't resist this addiction, then they need help, because by the time others see it, I think it will be too late.
